St. Seraphin of Montegranaro

"The most powerful weapon to conquer the devil is humility. For, as he does not at all know how to employ it, neither does he know how to defend himself from it."
- St. Vincent de Paul (1581 - 1660)

Today is the feast day of St. Seraphin of Montegranaro. Seraphin was born in 1540 to a poor Italian family, and tended the family's sheep when he got older. He was an orphan and lived with his older brother, and his older brother abused and bullied him. However, Seraphin grew in holiness. He spent much time in prayer, and became a Capuchin lay brother at the age of 16. He had a great devotion to the Blessed Sacrament and Our Lady. He was also blessed with the gifts of reading hearts, of prophecy, and of being able to perform miracles. He was very humble and generous, and gave advice to ecclesiastical and secular authorities. He died on October 12, 1604, in Ascoli Piceno, Italy.  He was canonized in 1767.

St. Seraphin of Montegranaro, pray for us!
