St. Wolfgang

"Our Lord needs from us neither great deeds nor profound thoughts. Neither intelligence nor talents. He cherishes simplicity."
- St. Therese of Lisieux (1873 - 1897)

Happy All Hallows Eve! Today is the feast day of St. Wolfgang. Wolgang was born in Swabia, Germany, during the tenth century. He received his schooling from the Benedictines in Reichenau and also in Wurzburg. Wolfgang then went on to teach in the cathedral school at Trier, and entered the Benedictines in 964. As a Benedictine, he was appointed head of the monastery school and was ordained a priest in 971. In 972, he became the bishop of Regensburg. While he was bishop, he helped reform the clergy, restored monasteries, encouraged education, and tutored Emperor Henry II. Wolfgang was also known for his great charity towards the poor, his zeal to preach the word of God, and also for his austere lifestyle. Wolgang died in Puppingen, Austria, in 994. He was canonized by Pope Leo IX in 1052.

St. Wolgang, pray for us!
