Pope Saint Hilary

"Little children follow and obey their father. They love their mother. They know nothing of covetousness, ill-will, bad temper, arrogance or lying. This state of mind opens the road to heaven. To imitate our Lord's own humility, we must return to the simplicity of God's little ones."
- Saint Hilary of Poitiers (315 - 368)

Today is the feast day of Pope Saint Hilary. Hilary was pope from 461 to 468, and before that worked under Pope Saint Leo the Great. He was a papal legate in the Robber Council of Ephesus in 449, and barely escaped alive. Throughout his time as pope, Hilary helped to strengthen the Church, especially in France and Spain, called councils in 462 and 465, rebuilt many churches, and also erected the chapel of Saint John Lateran. He also publicly rebuked Emperor Anthemius for supporting the Macedonian heresy. Hilary died in 468.

Pope Saint Hilary, pray for us!
