Saint Joseph the Worker

"Saint Joseph was a just man, a tireless worker, the upright guardian of those entrusted to his care. May he always guard, protect and enlighten families."
- Blessed Pope John Paul II (1920 - 2005)

Today is the feast day of Saint Joseph the Worker. Joseph was the foster father of Jesus, and the chaste spouse of Mary. This feast was instituted in 1955 by Pope Pius XII in response to the "May Day" celebrations for workers sponsored by Communists. This feast day also emphasizes the fact that Joseph was a worker, and that Jesus, obviously taught by Joseph, was a worker and carpenter as well. This feast day helps celebrate the dignity of workers by honoring Saint Joseph, one of the hardest working fathers of all time.

Saint Joseph, pray for us!
