Saint Vincent Kaun

"When the afflictions of this life overcome us, let us encourage ourselves to bear them patiently by the hope of heaven."
- Saint Alphonsus Liguori

Today is the feast day of Saint Vincent Kaun. Vincent was born in Korea sometime during the 16th century, but was brought to Japan in 1591 as a prisoner of war. While in Japan, Vincent was converted to Christianity. Vincent then decided to join the Jesuits, and studied at the Jesuit seminary of Arima. He worked for three decades as a catechist in both Japan and China. Vincent was burned alive at Nagasaki with Blessed Francis Pacheco in 1626 during the persecution of the Church.

Saint Vincent Kaun, pray for us!
