- St. Nicholas (d. 350)
Today is the feast day of St. Nicholas. Nicholas was the bishop of Myra (a city near Lycia) in what is now Turkey during the fourth century. Some sources say that he was present at the Council of Nicea, where he condemned Arianism, and that he was imprisoned for the Faith. It is also said that he was very generous and often helped the poor. There is a legend that says that he once helped a poor man by throwing three bags of gold into his window so that his three daughters would have a dowry and be able to get married.
St. Nicholas, pray for us!
