Saint Cyril of Jerusalem

"Make your fold with the sheep; flee from the wolves: depart not from the Church."
- Saint Cyril of Jerusalem (315 - 386)

Today is the feast day of Saint Cyril of Jerusalem. Cyril was born around 315 in Jerusalem. He became a priest, and later the bishop of Jerusalem. However, soon after he was consecrated as bishop he was called to a council and was accused of insubordination and the selling of Church property in order to relieve the poor. He was sent into exile, but was later vindicated. He was later sent into exile two more times after this. Cyril also attended the Council of Constantinople in 381, which amended the Nicene Creed. He was a great defender of the faith, though he was accused numerous times of being an Arian. However, the men of Cyril's time later vindicated him of being an Arian. Cyril died in 386, and was declared a doctor of the Church in 1822.

Saint Cyril of Jerusalem, pray for us!
