Saint George

"When one is convinced that his cause is just, he will fear nothing."
- Saint John Bosco (1815 - 1888)

Today is the feast day of Saint George. George was a soldier in the army of the Roman Emperor Diocletian, and was one of the Emperor's favorite soldiers. During this time, a persecution of Christians was taking place by order of Emperor Diocletian. George however was a brave Christian, and, without fear, went to the Emperor and sternly scolded him for being so cruel. George then gave up his position in the Roman army. After this, he was tortured in many terrible ways and beheaded. He died around 303. George is often pictured fighting a dragon to rescue a beautiful lady. The dragon stands for wickedness, and the lady stands for God's truth. George is the patron saint of soldiers, boy scouts, England, Catalonia, Portugal, Germany, Aragon, Genoa, and Venice.

Saint George, pray for us!
