Saint Conrad of Piacenza

"It is best to learn to silence the faculties and to cause them to be still, so that God may speak."
- Saint John of the Cross (1542 - 1591)

Today is the feast day of Saint Conrad of Piacenza. Conrad was born in 1290 to a noble family in northern Italy. When he was still young, he was married to the daughter of a nobleman named Euphrosyne. Soon after a hunting incident, Conrad and Euphrosyne agreed to separate. Euphrosyne was to become a Poor Clare, and Conrad was to join a group of hermits who followed the Third Order Rule of Saint Francis. Because of his growing reputation for holiness and increase of visitors, Conrad moved to a remote part of the island of Sicily where he lived for 36 years. He died kneeling before a crucifix in 1350. He was canonized in 1625.

Saint Conrad of Piacenza, pray for us!
