Saint Simeon of Jerusalem

"It is not the punishment but the cause that makes the martyr."
- Saint Augustine (354 - 430)

Today is the feast day of St. Simeon of Jerusalem. Simeon was the son of Alpheus, who was the brother of Saint Joseph. Simeon became the second bishop of Jerusalem after his brother Saint James the Lesser was killed by some of the Jewish people. He governed the church in Jerusalem for 43 years before being tortured and crucified by the Roman governor Atticus in 107. Simeon is said to of been around 120 years old when he died.

Saint Simeon, pray for us!
