Saint David of Wales

"Be joyful, and keep your faith and your creed. Do the little things that you have seen me do and heard about. I will walk the path that our fathers have trod before us."
- Saint David of Wales (d. 589)

Today is the feast day of Saint David of Wales. David was the son of King Sant of South Wales and Saint Non. He was ordained a priest and studied under Saint Paulinus. He was involved in missionary work and opened many monasteries. At his monastery in Menevia in southwestern Wales, the monks lived in extreme asceticism. David and the monks drank only water, and put in a full day of manual labor and study. In 550, David attended a synod where he contributed greatly. Because of his contributions, David was elected primate of the Cambrian Church. It is said that he was also consecrated archbishop by the patriarch of Jerusalem while he was visiting the Holy Land. David died in his monastery in Menevia around 589.

Saint David of Wales, pray for us!
