Saint Mark

"After John had been arrested, Jesus came to Galilee proclaiming the gospel of God: 'This is the time of fulfillment. The kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.'"
- Saint Mark, Mark 1:14-15

Today is the feast day of Saint Mark the Evangelist. Mark lived during the first century, and wrote one of the four Gospels. In the New Testament, he is sometimes called John Mark. Both he and his mother, Mary, were highly esteemed in the early Church, and his mother's house in Jerusalem often served as a meeting place for Christians. Mark also knew Saint Paul, Saint Barnabas, and Saint Peter very well. Saint Peter even called Mark "my son". Mark accompanied Paul and Barnabas, who was his cousin, on their missionary journey to the island of Cyprus. He later accompanied Barnabas alone. It is also known that Mark was with Saint Peter and Saint Paul in Rome.  Mark is attributed with the founding of the Church in Alexandria, and is the patron saint of notaries.

Saint Mark, pray for us!
