Saint Addal

"There is still time for endurance, time for patience, time for healing, time for change. Have you slipped? Rise up. Have you sinned? Cease. Do not stand among sinners, but leap aside."
- Saint Basil (330 - 379)

Today is the feast day of Saint Addal. Addal was a disciple of Jesus Christ who was sent by Saint Thomas to King Abgar of Edessa (now Turkey). According to tradition, King Abgar wrote to Jesus asking to be cured of an incurable illness that he had. Addal cured Abgar and converted the king and many others to Christianity. Addal continued to do missionary work around Edessa after converting the king, and died as a martyr in 180. Addal has been venerated in the Syrian and Persian churches since the second century.

Saint Addal, pray for us!
