St. Agnes

"This is a virgin's birthday; let us follow the example of her chastity...It is the birthday of holy Agnes: let men be filled with wonder, little ones with hope, married women with awe, and the unmarried with emulation."
- St. Ambrose (337 - 397)

Today is the feast day of St. Agnes. Agnes was born in the early part of the 3rd century, and was a Christian. She was very beautiful, and many men wished to marry her. However, she refused to marry them because she had made a vow of virginity. One of the men that she refused to marry reported to the authorities that she was a Christian, and she was executed.

St. Agnes, pray for us!
